Product characteristics: GEM® has a gold-flecked skin when ripe. Its thick skin allows the flesh to be easily scooped out. GEM® is a protected cultivar and can only be grown and traded under licence.

Taste: GEM® has a slightly nutty flavour and a smoother, creamier texture to its flesh.

Nutritional profile: Avocados are rich in monounsaturated fats and dietary fibre. They contain vitamin B6, B9, K, E, and C. They also contain minerals such as potassium, magnesium, copper, iron, zinc and calcium.

Ripening & storage: You can check the ripeness in two different ways. You can gently squeeze the avocado to feel the pressure or check if the stalk detaches easily. To speed up ripening, you can store the avocado in a paper bag with a ripe banana or apple. The shelf life can be extended by storing the GEM® avocado in a refrigerator. NOTE: GEM® avocados have a thicker skin, making it harder to detect ripeness. A firm GEM® can still be ripe.
