About this product

High-Speed Rotary Motion with No Axial Travel

The Ledex Ultimag is a fast rotary actuator which utilizes a high-energy permanent magnet to deliver substantially quicker speeds than most other solenoids. The unit offers a bidirectional, center-return function not found in traditional rotary solenoids, and can be operated in an on/off mode or proportionally, in both open- and closed-loop systems.

Bidirectional flexibility

Extremely fast operation–speeds over 100 Hz

Peak torque over 225 oz-in

Automatic center return

Long service life: up to 100 million cycles

Many standard sizes available for next-day shipment across North America

Bidirectional Motion Control

The Ultimag operates on the simple principle of attraction and repulsion of magnetic poles. The same unit can rotate clockwise or counterclockwise, depending on the polarity of the voltage applied to the coil. Rapid polarity switching enables extremely fast operating speeds. The stroke can be limited without affecting the function of the unit.

Industrial applications

Can you run the solenoid without external stops?

Although this is technically possible, we strongly recommend against it because it significantly increases wear and tear on your unit. External stops eliminate impact loading, extending the life of the product.

How does Ultimag compare to the BTA solenoid?

Ultimag uses an internal magnet to achieve the centered power-off position whereas the BTA uses a clock spring. This matters because the clock spring introduces additional dynamic external loading that the solenoid must overcome while moving. The BTA has a marginally slower response time at a more economical cost.

How does Ultimag compare to the Solligence fast rotary actuator?

For applications valuing speed, reliability, and predictive maintenance, the Solligence fast rotary actuator offers similar movement characteristics to the Ultimag but also contains custom embedded electronics to handle the solenoid drive algorithm and health monitoring diagnostics.

How can I run the solenoid in a proportional manner?

You can adjust the input voltage to tune the rotary position of the solenoid shaft based on the applied load of the application. Implementing closed-loop feedback, makes it possible to rapidly adjust input voltage based on measured shaft position.
