About this product

The Cavex® dewatering cyclone is designed to deliver a consistent underflow density regardless of solids content variation in the feed. It contains a discharge regulator to increase overall performance and efficiency in tailings, sand and aggregate applications. Overview The Cavex® dewatering cyclone features the innovative laminar spiral inlet geometry design of the original Cavex® hydrocyclone range, but with additional accessories that allow it to create a dry and stackable product. The hydrocyclone is usually fitted on a boom that can be rotated and adjusted. It also contains a discharge regulator (e.g. fishtail, duckbill, flapper) below the spigot to increase efficiency and deliver a consistent underflow density, regardless of solids content variation in the feed. The extended overflow pipe induces a siphon effect which creates a vacuum on the cyclone discharge regulator, causing it to close and trap the majority of the water, silts and clays. The regulator forces a higher percentage of water, silts and clays to the overflow. When the weight of the solids inside the hydrocyclone regulator is sufficient to overcome the vacuum, the thick underflow product discharges from the regulator. The control of the material reporting to the underflow results in a much higher underflow density than otherwise obtainable. The Cavex® dewatering cyclone is best suited to tailings, desliming and dewatering applications. Frequently Asked Questions What makes a cyclone a dewatering hydrocyclone? A dewatering hydrocyclone has similar principles as a standard hydrocyclone, but is fitted with additional accessories to aid in dewatering. These include: • A discharge regulator on the bottom of the cyclone, which allows the solids to build in the bottom of the cyclone when under siphon conditions. The solids will be discharged when the weight of the concentrated slurry (mostly solids) overcomes the siphon. • A special, extra-long overflow pipe at the top of the cyclone, which includes a valve and vacuum gauge to control the siphon generated. What feed density is required for a dewatering hydrocyclone? As with standard cyclones, feed density within a dewatering hydrocyclone (or "stacker") is also important. Typically, the feed density must remain below 25wt% solids. What feed pressure is required for a dewatering hydrocyclone? A portion of the dewatering hydrocyclone’s performance is dependant on the use of a siphon. In order to pull a sufficient siphon, the feed pressure to the hydrocyclone must remain below atmospheric pressure. Features and benefits Sharper Separation Efficiency The Cavex® dewatering cyclone contains our acclaimed laminar spiral inlet design, which results in sharper separation efficiency, greater capacity, reduced turbulence and longer wear life compared to other cyclones. Improved Underflow Density The Cavex® dewatering cyclone delivers a very high and consistent underflow density regardless of solids content variation in the feed, and with minimal water and slimes. The discharge of solids from the cyclone is controlled by a regulator (fishtail), and the siphon control valve offers simple adjustment of the underflow density. Easy to Mount on High Structures Cavex® dewatering hydrocyclones are smaller than other dewatering solutions, therefore can be easily mounted to high structures or over bins to be used in conjunction with screens. Innovative Cyclone Discharge Regulator The key to the success and advanced efficiency of the Cavex® dewatering hydrocyclone is the innovative operation of the cyclone discharge regulator (fishtail). The fishtail is fitted below the spigot on the underflow.
