About this product

Trio® TSW series sand washers use hydraulic separation by water to clean and classify sand particles by weight. Overview Our Trio® TSW series of sand washers (also known as "screw washers") are designed for washing and separation applications involving sand and fine materials. They use hydraulic separation by water to clean and classify sand particles by weight. Available in both single and twin-screw configurations, fine material washers are most often used after a sand classifying tank or a wet screening operation to process products such as concrete, mason, mortar, plaster and golf course sands. Generally, concrete, mason, asphalt and golf course sand specifications call for 0% to 3% passing the 80 micron sieve. In order to achieve the 0% to 3% passing, washers are sized to provide a 120 micron hydraulic split. The 120 micron hydraulic split removes the majority of the minus 80 micron material, leaving a minimum amount (approximately 1%) passing the 80 micron sieve. In which situations do you need a sand washer or fine material washer? Sand washers and fine material washers describe the same machine and are often needed in applications where the material is too dirty to meet aggregate specifications. Fine material washers or sand washers can also be used to dewater final products. How does a Trio® sand washer work? Heavier particles sink when processed and are collected in the bottom of the trough. The trough adds a further layer of classification because the added water pressure allows lighter dust particles to float to the surface of the claim settling pond. They are then discharged over the weirs at the rear of the machine. The sand particles are transported to the inclined discharge-end by the pitched steel spiral shafts. Dewatering occurs as the spiral shaft transports the settled sand up the incline of the trough, where liquids often flow downwards as the sand is pushed up. What factors should I consider when sizing a sand washer? The first factor to consider when sizing a sand washer is silt content, which relates to the amount of ultra-fine mesh silt particles (minus 80 micron particles) contained in the feed and the minimum amount of water required for proper washer operation. The second factor to consider is water volume, relating to the litres per minute of incoming wash water, or slurry, based upon silt dilution requirements. You should also consider tonnage, which relates to the washed final product tonnage output of the system. Washers should be sized to allow adequate capacity to handle present, and future production increase needs. Also take into consideration feed screw rotation speed (rpm), noting belt drive reduction requirements. Lastly, product gradation should be considered before equipment size is specified. Product gradation relates to the amount of fines present (minus 315 micron) and the turbulence caused by the speed of the rotating screw shaft. Features and benefits Built to Perform Our range of Trio® TSW series sand washers are built to perform, offering the following features and benefits: • A flexible spider coupling that protects the rotating shaft from thrust loads and the gear reducer against vibrations • The sand washer tub is fabricated from low carbon steel plates and features a reinforced seamless steel spiral shaft • Delivers high reduction ratios • The gear reducers ensure that the equipment continues to perform efficiently by lowering spiral speeds and increasing torque outputs as required • Support feet can be pivoted to facilitate changes to the inclination of the tub • Single or twin screw options are available • Three types of wear shoes are available; cast iron, NiHard and urethane coated steel • The feed box features internal and external baffles which reduce incoming velocity and maximises product retention • The double-bent tub construction provides strength and rigidity • The close-clearance curved plate helps to reduce slippage or ""carryback"" when dewatering material Simple Servicing and Operation Trio® sand washers are easy to operate and service: • Product gradation is easily controlled as the washer shaft(s) spiral speed and wash water input is completely configurable • The lower end-shaft coupling ensures precise alignment and provides an easy method for removing the shaft for maintenance • The robust spiral shaft flights are fully-welded and mated with a full length spiral assembly of replaceable high-chrome cast white iron, bolt-on wear shoes A Focus on Compatibility Trio® sand washers are available with standard pipe sizes and connections for wash water and washer tub cleanout ports. They also have different drive motors available including 50Hz IEC (IE2 / IE3) and 60Hz NEMA TEFC 4-Pole. Why Weir?
