Silverside are unique to New Zealand and Australian waters, but it is closely related to similar species around other parts of the world.

Silverside are mainly caught on the Campbell Plateau as bycatch on trawlers. The live in deep waters from 200 to 600 metres.

Physical attributes

Silverside are a pale yellow-grey with a distinctive silver band along the side. Their body is small and elongated with a pointed head and large but thin scales.

The flesh is delicate and very translucent.

Found in New Zealand waters off the continental shelf, usually at depths of 200 and 600 metres. Silverside is caught year round as a bycatch species, mainly on the Campbell Plateau.
